Canadian TV online: how it works
CBC Gem is CBC's free streaming service. It has live TV streams from up to 14 regions across Canada and shows on demand. You need a free CBC Gem account; a paid Premium plan removes the adverts on demand.
CTV and Noovo moved to Crave when Bell Media closed their apps on 1 May 2026; Crave's plans with live channels start at $11.99 a month. Global's app is becoming the STACKTV app: live Global needs a TV provider login, and Global News streams free.
ICI TOU.TV, Radio-Canada's free app, has ICI TÉLÉ live from its regional stations for logged-in members; ICI TOU.TV EXTRA is paid. TSN streams TSN 1 to 5 on TSN.ca and its app, from $24.99 a month or with a TV provider login.
How to watch Canadian TV abroad
CBC says much of its content is geofenced because of rights and licensing agreements, including on Gem, so it works only inside Canada. Creating an account also needs a Canadian address.
News is the exception: CBC says you can watch most of its news and current affairs programmes abroad, such as The National, Marketplace and The Fifth Estate, and listen to CBC Radio One live.
Crave's app listing says Crave is only available in Canada, and Global says its content is licensed only for audiences in Canada. TSN says it can only be streamed when you are physically in Canada.
For ICI TÉLÉ, CBC/Radio-Canada says most of its news can be watched abroad, but most drama and comedy cannot; we found no official word on the live channel.
